Hypnotherapy Vs. Talk Therapy
"Our mission as hypnotherapists is to find the root cause of a client's issue, or negative block in their life, and change the effect it has in their lives forever."
As a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Sara Adams, co-owner of Quantum Therapy, believes in using Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy as the most effective treatment tool available today to find root causes to problems in clients' lives - and therefore to create lasting change.
The process happens by speaking directly to a client's subconscious mind after a series of progressive relaxation exercises. This, Adams says, is the main difference between traditional talk therapy and hypnotherapy:
"Talk therapy focuses on the client's conscious mind's perception of what a root cause to their problem may be. Hypnotherapy speaks directly to the subconscious mind which stores all memories and perceptions, and therefore understands the origin of problems.
Adams continues, "Talk therapy relies on the concept that if a client is aware of why they do things, this awareness should be enough to create lasting change in their lives. While this concept is valid in approximately 40% of cases, for the remaining 60% lasting change is usually elusive or temporary ( 2006 American Health Magazine)
"Moreover, most people can tell you why they think they have problems - for example, an anxious over eater may say that they over eat because daddy left when they were 2, and it comforts them; or the nervous public speaker may have been told that he was to be seen and not heard when he was a child, and this belief carried over into adulthood - but just knowing these reasons does NOT create new behaviors, thoughts, emotions or lasting change.
The emotional eater will still eat, as these patterns are ingrained, and the nervous public speaker will still feel nervous before a speaking engagement."
While awareness of "why" is important, hypnosis goes one step further - "we find the root cause and we change the effect of the causal experience. Working with the subconscious mind clients can begin to change thoughts, patterns, replace faulty 'programs' with new more positive ones, and of course, create new behaviors - which as a result changes lives."
Adams believes that the major benefit of Hypnosis vs Talk Therapy is the effectiveness of hypnotherapy - most issues can be resolved using hypnosis with a fraction of the sessions required for traditional talk therapy.
"Most people know someone who's smoked for years and quit after one or two sessions of hypnosis. How many talk therapy sessions would it take for this habit to be removed?"
